The Main Auction 2017 - now closed

‘King of The Shoot’ Penguin.

The summer of 2018 will see giant sculptures of penguins adorning the streets of Dundee, in a high profile, mass participation Penguin Parade. Each sculpture will be individually designed and painted by local artists and companies will be invited to get creative and sponsor the design of one of them. The Penguin Parade will culminate with a celebration event, where all the penguins will be auctioned in aid of Maggie's Centre.
The recent Oor Wullie auction in Dundee proved to be a massive success with fierce bidding from individuals, businesses and organisations, all desperate to have their own sculpture. The Penguin Parade is expected to be every bit as popular and The Shoot is honoured to have been given the very first penguin to auction today. This is the only penguin to go on sale outside the main event next summer and a very special opportunity to get ahead of the game and own a truly unique piece of art.
Our charming king penguin has been painted by the highly talented Janice Aitken from Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design, who also designed the shape of the sculpture itself for Maggie's. ‘King of The Shoot’ is dressed like a true country gent with checked shirt, tweeds, ear defenders and shotgun ready for a day at The Shoot; he is beautifully painted to capture the textures of his tweeds and his densely packed feathers. Our penguin is almost 6ft high on his plinth and tough enough to go inside or outside his new home. He'll be revealed at The Shoot on Sunday 13th August - will you be lucky enough to take him home?
